Data center cabling structure implement follow EN 50600-x series standard which is made by independent and non-profit organization CENELEC.  EN 50600-3-1 specify data center’s management and operation process in details and provide design standards.

Under EN 50600-2-4  standard’s specification, there is point to point data center cabling and fixed cabling. Point to point cabling adopt specialized optical fiber patch cable instead of normal cable to connect two closing IT devices while fixed cabling adopts peer to peer or hierarchical structure to support cabinets achieve cross-linking.

It seems that point to point connection is the simplest and economical construction. While this connection way just can be used in the same cabinet or two closing open racks or patch panels. Point to point cabling, usually, cannot be re-used with developing data center, equipment, and interaction connection position. Keeping to change the interaction connection equipment will occur signal disturbance. Therefore, point to point cabling is not enough to support network increasing and immigration.
